"Rīgas satiksme" ends reconstruction in Mazā Brīvības Street and reopens tram stop "Meža skola"
Starting from today, buses No.1, 14 and 40 will run to the city centre from Baltezera Street and Silciema in Mazā Brīvības Street. A new bus stop, "Sporta akadēmija", will be also opened in the direction of the city centre. Meanwhile, buses to Jugla will keep on running as before, in Brīvības Street.
Starting from today, October 22, tram stop "Meža skola" is reopened on tram routes No 3 and 6. This tram-stop is fully adjusted for low-tram traffic, including a new solution to elevate the carriageway, which will be also used for low-floor trams running in Kr.Barona Street. The new tram-stop is fully equipped and provided with shelters and safety barriers to protect passengers.
On the same day the first monitor displaying online tram schedules and other useful information for passengers was placed at tram terminal at Jugla. It is planned that several other tram stops will be also equipped with such monitors.
It shall be reminded that the traffic of trams No. 3 and 6 between Riga secondary school No. 45 and Jugla was fully restored on May 28, this year. The reconstruction of the Ropažu Street -Jugla section ensured the necessary infrastructure for low-floor tram traffic, including the replacement of tram tracks, which reduced the level of noises and vibration caused by trams. The electric power supply system was also upgraded for low-floor trams. Tram-stop platforms have been widened and raised to improve the safety of passengers and to make their getting on/off train more convenient.
2.65 km of tram tracks were reconstructed, 5.36 km of contact wires were replaced, 117 of contact line supports and 12 elevated tram-stop platforms were built.
"Rīgas satiksme" started the reconstruction of tram route No. 6 on April 14, 2012, considering the worn rail-tracks and the outdated general infrastructure, including electric power supply and tram-stop platforms.
